(Back to Beech Hill College Website)
Since the Autumn of 2010 Beech Hill College has been involved in a Comenius School Partnership entitled “Space & Us – A Journey to the Planets”. This involves schools from Belgium, Germany, Slovenia and Poland, along with Beech Hill College.
Part of this project is the study, building and launching of rockets. Last Spring students built rockets based on an agreed design and took part in a rocket-launching competition in Slovenia with the other partner schools. This proved very interesting and informative for the students (and teachers) involved and the Irish rockets did us proud.
Two teachers have just returned from a preparatory meeting in Germany where final plans were made for a Physics Workshop in November. This workshop will provide an opportunity for a number of Physics students from Beech Hill College to travel to Germany and take part in a workshop covering aspects of the Leaving Certificate Syllabus that apply to rocket science, such as Newton’s Laws and resistance.
The Grand Finale of this Partnership will be held in Monaghan next March and will be an exciting event. More about that later.
